Heart to Heart Responds to Tornadoes in Kansas and Missouri
OLATHE, Kan./May 23, 2011 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading humanitarian organization, today announced that it is mobilizing to respond to communities in Kansas and Missouri that were affected by a series of tornadoes over the weekend. The most severe damage appears to be in Joplin, Mo., where a large twister cut through the center of town, devastating its only hospital and killing 90 people.
“Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones in these terrible storms,” said André T. Butler, Heart to Heart’s CEO. “Heart to Heart is uniquely positioned to respond effectively to the medical needs of tornado-ravaged communities in Kansas and Missouri. Our focus point right now is Joplin, where we already have a medical-assessment team on the ground and are preparing to send more resources later today.”
Heart to Heart deployed a team of volunteers last night. Based on this team’s report, Heart to Heart is also deploying its Mobile Health Clinic to the region. This clinic contains a waiting room, scrub station, two exam rooms, and an onboard pharmacy.
