Marietta Corporation began with a cabbage farmer who had an innovative idea. Manny Siegle, of Marietta, N.Y., went to Europe in the 1970s in search of sauerkraut packing equipment. After purchasing the equipment, Siegle discovered that as the sauerkraut was being packaged, strings of sauerkraut interfered with the machine’s sealing process. As Siegle searched for another commercial application for the machine, he discovered that packaging amenity-size personal care products was the perfect use for his new equipment. Siegle’s discovery launched the guest amenities industry in the United States and propelled Marietta Corporation to the forefront of the personal care packaging industry.
